The project is in the home stretch now. This week I was able to finish up the seat and shelf assemblies and apply the first coat of oil. The seat and shelf are made basically the same way; the frame is joined with bridle joints and the slats are mortise and tenons. The lower shelf slats are thinner than the seat slats so those slats get a roundover on both sides so they fit into the rounded mortises without a shoulder.
Next up will be applying a natural oil/wax blend to help shed the water and screwing the seat and shelf to the base.
