The cat litter cabinets are complete. There was a lot of woodworking in these simple cabinets. What began as a simple concept to conceal cat litter, turned into a real piece of furniture.
With the side’s of the cabinets assembled, I moved on to creating the opening for the entry and some ventilation holes. I was then able to assemble the box of the cabinets by cutting shallow dados in the side frames, and attaching the top, bottom and middle shelf with pocket screws.
The doors of the cabinet feature a modern design for the cabinets pulls. Instead of using hardware, a notch is cut into the top and a finger notch is routed on the top of the cabinet door.
Lastly, a shallow tray was made with undermount drawer slides that will hold the litter box and allow for easy changing.
With all of the components made, I finished the piece with 2 coats of water based polyurethane. This is a durable finish that is easy to clean which will work great in a piece like this.
