This past week I finished up an oak executive’s desk. I would probably call this mission style as it emphasizes solid craftsmanship and is without a lot of frills. The cabinets and privacy panel are basic frame and panels made with tongue and groove construction. The panels are flat, solid wood which I resawed on the bandsaw to arrive at 5/16” thick. The drawers are poplar with plywood bottoms and are joined with a drawer lock joint (or 1/4×1/4×1/4 as some people call it). The solid wood top is 34” deep and 72” wide for a ton of work space. The drawers ride on soft close under mount slides and I installed two power supply grommets in the top for easy power and charging. This piece was finished with Rubio monocoat’s Chocolate oil plus2c finish. I’m super happy with how this one turned out. The simplicity and grandness of the piece is really attractive to me.
