Kid’s Loft Bed

This kid’s loft bed is the perfect way to gain space in your child’s room. This project brought out my inner child as I began to remember building forts and hides out in my room as a kid. This is going to be a perfect place to hangout and play, and when he’s older, he can use the space for something like a desk or couch.

The bed is made of solid oak and features tall slatted rails and a frame and panel headboard with an arched top rail. The foot board has multiple rails to add strength and also serve as the ladder to enter the bed. All of the components attach to the extra large, 3 1/2″ x 4″ posts.

The bed is made to come apart to allow it to be moved into the room. The headboard, footboard and two side rails attach to the post with 1/2″ cross dowel bolts. The solid components are joined with mortise and tenons including the rails for the ladder, the slats for the rails and frame panel for the headboard.

This piece was finished with Osmo’s Wood Wax, antique oak finish. This is a 0% VOC oil/wax finish that is perfect for kids furniture.
