Bistro End Tables

Today, I finished up the last client project for this year before focusing on a few Christmas gifts. These bistro style ends feature two levels for storage and repetitive rounded details that flow around the piece. The open shelf design and overall lightweight feel of the piece would work great next to any chair or sofa and will help keep the room feeling open and airy.

This is a post and frame construction with the rails being mortised into the legs. I began by milling the square leg blanks and then routed the mortises. After milling the rails and cutting to length, I created the tenons at the tablesaw along with the groove in the rails which accepts the panel for the shelves. I finished up the rails with a large cove profile which accents the bowled/cove profile in the top of the legs. The cove in the top of the leg was cut with the router, bull nose router bit and a circle template. See my YouTube video for how this was made. With the joinery complete, I cut a large roundover on the outside corner of the legs. This detail along with the coves in the rails and top of the leg create a unique, almost European look to the piece. I could definitely see myself enjoying a Cappuccino with this table!

This piece was finished with Benjamin Moore Dove White cabinet grade paint for a clean, fresh look.
