This Ipe porch swing was modelled after the famous New Yankee Workshop porch swing. I chose Ipe for its rich color and outdoor durability. It features pinned mortise and tenon construction for the frame, mortised back slats and the screws securing the seat slats are concealed hidden with matching Ipe plugs. The stainless steel u-bolts are permanently secured to the swing with a recessed hole and Ipe plug to conceal the hardware. The piece is finished with Ipe oil and only requires minimal maintenance once a season to maintain its beautiful, chocolate brown color.

Although this piece is made of Ipe which is heavier and more costly, consider another outdoor wood such as cedar, mahogany, cypress or white oak.
The seat on this piece is curved for comfort, and you may also consider curving the back slats to conform to the body.
