When working with me to create a piece of furniture, you can expect a personal, caring and professional experience. I work directly with each client to gain an understanding of their vision for the piece and maintain consistent communication throughout the entire build process. It’s my passion to craft meaningful furniture, and part of the story begins with me. It’s my goal for you to end up with a quality piece of furniture, and to also carry away a positive experience about the craftsman that created it.
Design
The beginning of every project starts with design. We will work together to explore your design aesthetic, the function of the piece, dimensions, species and materials that will be used. You can expect to receive detailed drawings and examples of other furniture that will inspire the design. When selecting species, I will provide photos and real examples of lumber for you to choose from. When submitting a project inquiry, provide as much information as you have such as descriptions of the piece, layout/sizes/dimensions, desired wood tone, and pictures of pieces that have inspired you.
Agreements
Communication is key to a positive experience when commissioning a custom piece of furniture. I will take our design notes and provide you with a detailed statement of work and estimate for the product(s). We will both sign the agreement confirming the details are complete and accurate. The signed agreement and a 50% deposit is required to begin your project. The deposit secures your position in the build queue and enables me to purchase the materials to get started on your custom furniture.
Handcrafted furniture is worth the wait. But, while you wait you can expect regular communication as your project moves closer to beginning. I will give you periodic updates on your position in the build queue, and I may reach out to confirm any details or design decisions that may arise.
Construction
Construction is an exciting part of the process. I will reach out to you a couple of weeks before beginning the build to confirm the details of the agreement once more. During the build phase, I like to provide the occasional sneak peek to keep you involved in the build and allow you to enjoy the process of creating the piece. I may also offer design options or decisions that may arise during the build.
Completion
There isn’t much that excites me more than completing an heirloom quality piece of furniture for you and your family to enjoy. When your furniture is complete, I will walk you through the features, details and craftsmanship that went into making it. I will also provide you care instructions so the finish continues to protect the piece. If you opt for delivery, I will personally deliver the furniture and set it up in your home.
